What sets us apart from the other coffee bars is our experience in the catering industry and our quality. We’ve been catering coffee for 8 years and that time in the industry has really shown us what we need for each event, questions to ask (such as about backup plans when the weather is rainy, trash policy, etc.), and how to prepare for the worst at each event so that even when the worst happens, we are still ok. One thing that we have seen many times is that a lot of wedding planners and event coordinators like to think that the weather in Southern California is always going to be perfect, but when you have an outdoor event or wedding, you still need to pay attention to the weather and have a backup plan if it starts raining. It is always the worst when there is no plan and we cant serve because our machinery can’t get wet or the bride and groom or event host is having to solve the problems that the coordinator or planner didn’t plan for. Another issue that we see a lot is that the venue has a strict policy that the caterer has to remove their trash from the premises when they leave, but the planner and venue doesn’t provide enough trash cans so we end up with over flowing trash bins (which doesn’t look nice at all). So we always make sure that there is another trash bin provided for the rest of the event located near our station to avoid that distasteful look. Lastly, because we have been in the industry for so long, we know what time we need to arrive at to successfully setup for a smooth service and how much time we need to tear down so we don’t run up extra costs to you (the host) that the venue sometimes charges for vendors that leave late.

We have not only been working with specialty coffee learning about the science of coffee for over 15 years, and been catering for over 10 years (a few years before Rugged Coffee was formed), but our founder and owner also competed in the Brewer’s Cup competition in 2018 making it through the preliminaries, the qualifiers, and all the way to getting 17th place (out of 26 national competitors) in the national competition. You don’t get that far in the competition not knowing how to make coffee taste the best. We use our creative mind and our understanding of coffee science to make all of the drinks that we serve taste the absolute best. A lot of coffee shops or coffee caterers know how to make coffee taste good in the beginning, but once the event gets busy, they leave quality behind and worry about speed of service or people that worry too much about quality and dont know how to serve guests quick enough.
